Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the option for unwanted hair on the face and body. It is not a permanent solution but it greatly reduces regrowth of hair. This does however vary from person to person as some clients do experience complete removal with no regrowth, but it is not 100% guaranteed for all clients. The laser light wavelength used for hair removal is attracted to darker hair color like brown and black. In order for laser hair removal to be performed, the hair must be dark colored. Blonde, white, and grey hairs are not treated by laser because of the lack of pigment. Red hair will sometimes be dark enough to attract the laser wavelength, but usually not.

The wavelength is attracted to pigmentation and will only treat those areas. For this reason undesired hair must be shaved prior to treatment. We want the laser to target the hair where it is developed under the skin’s surface in order to destroy the follicle, not above the skin’s surface. The Spa recommends a series of 3-6 treatments, sometimes more or sometimes less depending on each individual client and the outcome per treatment. With each treatment the hair follicle is zapped and killed, forcing the body to regenerate a new hair follicle. The process of multiple treatments eventually fatigues the body’s process to regenerate new hair, resulting in semi permanent removal. It is recommended that once desired results are achieved, a follow up appointment 1-2 times per year is needed to ensure the hair follicles are not able to reproduce.

Wax treatments

Waxing is a form of hair removal that uses a sticky substance to rip hair out of the follicle. This is not a permanent solution but results can be expected to last 2-4 weeks.

The unwanted hair needs to be 1 centimeter to a half inch long to be removed. If it’s any shorter the wax is not able to grab it well enough to pull it out. If it’s any longer than half and inch it will be a more painful process for the client and potential bruising and tenderness can occur. Areas to be waxed are first cleansed with a gentle, antibacterial tonic, then dusted with a light powder to protect the skin. This ensures that the wax grabs the hair shafts, not the skin. The area to be waxed and the clients skin type and condition determine the type of wax to be used for removal. We offer a hard wax, Cerapil, which does not use a strip to be pulled off. It is thickly applied by a single use stick and left to cool/dry. An edge flicked up to grip and the rest of the wax is quickly pulled off with all hair it covered. This is very gentle on the skin and there is rarely tenderness after treatment. Another option is strip wax removal. An Amber wax is applied on prepped skin very thinly with a single use stick. A pelon material strip is then firmly pressed over the wax and quickly pulled off long with all of the hairs underneath. Once all of the unwanted hair in the desired area is removed, the skin is cleaned again and any stubborn hairs left behind are tweezed. Skin is left silky smooth and hair free.
